Coach Buzz Moorman

San Diego, California

Hi, I’m Coach Buzz. I am a speed and strength coach focused on improving the performance of college, high school, and youth athletes. I specialize in the individual training of both male and female athletes and understand the unique training needs required for each sport and body type.

Over the past 18 years of my competing and coaching career, I have gathered a library of elite training programs from US Olympians, professional soccer players, NFL players, professional track & field athletes, and Division I coaches and athletic trainers across several explosive sports. I combine these materials into tailored programs for all of my athletes to help them reach their peak for their sport and their season.

Focus Areas

Speed, agility, strength. These are the foundation of a powerful athlete. My training programs focus on these core areas to help every athlete maximize their potential.

Sport-Specific and Gender-Specific. All sports and all athletes have different demands and physiological needs. I work with each athlete to enhance their performance for their sport.

Injury Prevention. My techniques incorporate balance, stability, mobility, plyometrics, muscle and ligament strengthening and protection to promote long-term health.

Enhancing your current training. I work to compliment and enhance your existing team training schedule. Our sessions will go deeper into the physical performance needs for your sport to help make your team training even more valuable and effective.

Peak Performance. No matter your personal or team training goals, we will work together to set targets for peak performance to maximize results at the right time.

Short and Long-Term Growth. With each plan and performance cycle, we build on your previous performance to set new goals and break new boundaries.

Scientific Approach and Measurable Results. As a former collegiate athlete, coach, and engineer, I believe in the value of setting a baseline of performance, using measurable results to address weaknesses and enhance strengths. I want to see every athlete maximize their potential physically and mentally.

Mental Strength, Resilience, and Confidence. My approach encourages healthy development of the athlete’s mindset, recognition, and belief in their own abilities and what they are capable of achieving.

Training Equipment. I provide all necessary equipment for our training sessions.

Core Philosophy

I understand proper mechanics, joint positioning, and how to correct muscular imbalances created by specific sports. My programs incorporate effective and efficient methods for the fastest improvements in both healthy and injured athletes. My approach helps reduce injuries in the short-term and instill long-term healthy practices in all movements.

I believe in training like a champion and resting like a champion. Not every rep, set, day, or week needs to be all-out, but every rep, set, day, and week needs to be performed with all-out focus and preparation.

I understand your busy schedule, grueling practices, and outside pressures, and I build specific programs to work around your unique challenges.

My approach ensures athletes can thrive as people, as athletes, and as students. As a father myself, my goal is to create an enjoyable, educational environment for the athlete and the parent. I focus on holistic health – maximum performance, but also diet, sleep, and study habits.

My customized training programs include exercises each athlete actually enjoys.

I don’t focus on hitting a target weight or body composition. If athletes stick to their routine and build good habits, then the results will follow. You'll know when you're doing the right stuff – you don't need a scale to tell you when to stop or keep going.

I don’t just write a workout plan; I teach a philosophy and a long-term plan for a lifetime of performance improvement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you train? We specialize in helping every athlete reach the next level. Group training is for youth, high school, college, and professional athletes. Individual 1:1 training is for all athletes including youth through professional athletes as well as adults seeking advanced performance coaching.

This is my first time attending a group session. Which class should I choose? We recommend athletes join the group according to their age as this will best match them with other athletes of the same physical capabilities. View group session information here. We get to know every athlete personally. We want to know your sport, your goals, and schedule so we can tailor our approach for you. We’ll make sure to address any questions you have and recommend the best group setting for your athlete.

Do I need to reserve a spot? Yes, please reserve your group session spot prior to class. This lets the coaches know who will be attending so we can customize the workout to the individuals in the group.

What will a group session be like? Group sessions are high intensity and high energy. We design every workout to push each athlete to be their best. Workouts consist of fast twitch muscle exercises, plyometrics, speed drills, and technical instruction. We coach each athlete to improve their mechanics and running form, and create a fun, competitive environment to encourage mental resilience and confidence building. Please bring water, cleats, and running shoes to your session.

Is Strength Training right for my son or daughter? To generate maximum speed, the body needs a powerful engine to create force and drive the body forward. Strength training is an essential part of giving the body power to go fast. Strength training creates a healthy foundation, and does not mean your athlete will get “bulky”, but rather it will help improve athletic performance, support injury resilience, reduce joint pain and has many other benefits.
